Dominican Students To Participate In CUT Games

When the 13th Edition of the Caribbean Union of Teachers Track and Field Championships rolls open in St. Kitts later this week, Dominica’s National Flag will be seen flying high for the first time in the history of the games.

Dominica will for the first time participate in the Caribbean Union of Teachers Track and Field Championships. An eighteen member team will join Mrs. Celia Nicholas and Miss Isabella Prentice from the Dominica Association of Teachers who are already in St. Kitts for the Caribbean Union of Teachers Executive Meeting. The Team includes Estaphania Pascal, Kerdisha Royer, Emerly John, Orie Baron, and Derick St. Jean from the Dominica Grammar School, Nicole Paris, Noah Bethelamie, Ajani Reefe, Desmond Boney and Stephan Telemaque, from the North East Comprehensive School, Jernel Phillip and Chelsea Lawrence from the Wesley Primary School, Luan Gabriel from the Isaiah Thomas Secondary School, Anisha Burton from the Concord Primary School, and Deon Burton from the Atkinson Primary School. Leading the team is Mr. Julian Lloyd Benjamin who will serve as Chef De Mission/Manager. Also accompanying the Team are coaches Mr. Smith Telemaque – Head Coach and Miss Rhona Daniel – Assistant Coach.

The Team just concluded a two day training camp in Dublanc and is ready to capture Gold in St. Kitts.
The games which are carded for July 23 – 26, 2010 will take place at the Silver Jubilee Athletic Stadium in Basseterre, St. Kitts. The event is organized under the auspices of the Caribbean Union of Teachers and is hosted by the St. Kitts Teachers’ Union.

GUT Hosts Successful Workshop

The Grenada Grand Beach Resort was the site for a Sub – Regional Workshop on Education Policy organized by EI’s Regional Office for the Caribbean. The Workshop, which ran from the 25th to the 27th of November, 2009 saw participants coming from Antigua, Dominica, St. Lucia, Barbados, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago and host country Grenada.

This is a very interesting group of individuals.
They are the Presenters and Participants of a just concluded Education International Sub-Regional Workshop on Education Policy. The Workshop was held in Grenada November 25 - 27, 2009.

RCC Recognizes Celia

On Saturday September 05, 2009 the Roseau City Council held its third annual Recognition Awards Ceremony under the theme “Recognizing and Rewarding Exemplary Service”.
The ceremony which is the ‘brain child’ of Mayor, His Worship Cecil Joseph saw the recognition of a number of individuals, groups and Business Enterprises.

Featuring prominently at the Ceremony was Mrs. Celia Nicholas. The veteran teacher and longest serving Principal in the Commonwealth of Dominica received two awards; the Jean Joseph Award for her outstanding contribution to education over the years and the Mayor’s Award for Education.

Mrs. Nicholas is a former teacher at the Convent High School. She is currently the Principal of the Dominica Community High School. She is also President of the Dominica Association of Teachers and a Trustee on the Caribbean Union of Teachers Executive Committee. Mrs. Nicholas serves on a number of Education Committees, Statutory Board, and Non governmental organizations.

These Awards came on the heels of her receipt in July 2009 of two awards; a Regional Award from the Caribbean Union of Teachers and an International Award from Educational for her outstanding contribution to education and trade unionism regionally and internationally.

The Dominica Association of Teachers congratulates Mrs. Celia Nicholas on her remarkable achievements.
